Auguste Rodin -the Master artist .

I thought of placing these photos of the famous sculpures of Auguste Rodin(1840-1917) as a follow up of the previous post the"Kiss".
These are the photos of the sculpures exhibited at Rodin Musium at Paris.
Rodin based the famous "Thinker" and the sculpure of "The Gates of Hell" on the Dante's "Divine Comedy".
"The Thinker" is well known to most of us. many casts were made of both of these sculptures during and after Rodin's death for he encouraged reproductions of his works. Hence his sculptures are in many collections.
He successfully portrayed human emmotions in his works.

"The Kiss"

1
This photo is of a vedeo installation by John Slepian I took from the web magazine-
. 'Artdaily.org' dt April19th 2007-
"The Kiss consists of two monitors depicting two forms that are trying against all odds to kiss each other. For more than five years John Slepian has created digitally generated photographs, video installations, and interactive computer installations that investigate what it is that makes us feel human—something, according to Slepian, that is becoming harder and harder to delineate in this world of rapidly advancing, and often shifting technologies. His works depict organic forms that are apparently derived from the human body. Though enormously simplified, they exhibit identifiable gestures and behaviors. As Slepian explains, “They are intended to elicit an awareness of the disjunctions that can occur between one’s emotional and intellectual reactions, and thereby provoke in the viewer a consideration of the process through which we come to identify with the objects of our gaze.”
The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art will be showcasing this vedeo instalation work from June to August 2007. Contrast this with the second numbered by me as 2- the highly decorative and elegant painting , swathed in gold by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt.(1862-1918).'The Kiss' by Klimt is supposed to express visually the loss of self that lovers experience. Both are works of art-products of imagination and thought. :) 2
